Collaborative audio work and radio documentary

A short edit of This City's Centre, 3. Here Now, a performance incorporating live video streaming, staged between a third-floor office space in Princesshay, Exeter and the streets and homes of the city. This City's Centre was a digital triptych for Exeter. Developed by Blind Ditch in 2013 in partnership with Exeter Phoenix, RAMM, Exeter College and funded by Arts Council England, Exeter City Council and Arts and Culture at University of Exeter.

Performers in order of appearance: Phil Smith, Katy Villa, Jonny Rowden, Students from Exeter College, Jane Mason, Lizzy Humber. Music is from Consort of Fower Parts composed by Matthew Locke in Exeter 1660 ca. played by Cat Radford on accordian outside Exeter Cathedral. Camera by Philibert Patricot. Edit Volkhardt Müller.

After working in villages across rural Teignbridge in Devon between 2004-06 with our VANLAND project, we knew there were some young people who had been involved in our film making workshops that would like to have another go at something more in depth. One of the key themes of our VANLAND experience was communication across generations in rural Teignbridge – the perception of what young people get up to seemed to be very different to what they were actually doing. Our proposal to Mediabox was a four stage project:
For young people to interview older people in the district and make a documentary about what they used to get up to when they were young.
For the young people involved to use this research to make a fictional short film, written with Peter Snelling with a cast of young and older people.
To plan, shoot and edit a music video with a local young band.
To support young people across the district organise screenings of these and other short films made in the district in the places they like to hang out.
Only 15% of Mediabox applications were funded, and we had a great time developing and shooting these films with the young people involved…. and watching them on big screens across the region.

<li>December 2007 Start Me Up! the young band featured in Funkenstein get through to the finals of the Battle of the Bands South West U18.</li>
<li>29th-31st May 2008 Funkenstein screening at  The Glove Factory, Appledore Visual Art’s Festival, Appledore, North Devon.</li>
